What a wonderfully relaxed morning this was. I was lucky enough to spend time with Aleks and her little boy one weekday morning. I arrived to pyjamas and TV and I just knew that it was going to be a great session documenting their morning routine.
Little O, just like every other toddler, was glued to the TV when I arrived and he made it very clear (with body language and words) that I was in the way of his show when I started photographing him. To get him into the kitchen was a literal drag (see pictured) but once he was on the counter with a bag of sugar he was happy as the proverbial Larry (who is Larry anyway?)
There was a tug of war over the sugar, an egg for the sugar trade off and a mountain of pancakes which left little O looking very pleased with life. It was just a magical morning (and always such a privilege) watching the quiet moments between this mommy and her little boy. The trouble with life is that we think things are going to last forever but they don't. Soon little O will be too big to sit on the kitchen counter or to be carried on his mom's hip. He'll get shy when she leans in for a kiss and when he starts school mornings like this won't be as frequent.
Having been a SAHM for 7 years I know just how wonderfully special small, usually overlooked things like morning routine are. We take the ordinary for granted but it's the ordinary that's like gold dust sprinkling colour into our lives and that's why documenting your everyday ordinary is so fundamentally important. Blink and you will miss it! Pictures on the other hand - they last forever!
